Maybelline Color Show Polka Dots Nail Varnish

When browsing the aisles at my local Boots, I came across the Maybelline section and the display of all it's new offerings. My eyes were instantly drawn to the pretty pink speckled nail varnish and when I saw it was only £2, an incredibly low price for a Maybelline nail varnish, I grabbed it straight away. I got the Polka Dots one in no. 201 'Speckled Pink' which stood out to me cause it was different to other textured/effect nail varnishes that are around at the moment which all seem to contain glitter, with the exception of the amazing Illamasqua speckled polishes, but this one has a really attractive splattered paint effect to it which I love!

Now I do really like this but there are a few negatives as well but lets start with having a look on the positive side of things. First of all I was really impressed with it's coverage, I had expected it to be like many others I have tried and that is incredibly sheer to the point where you have to put about five coats on to get the full effect if you want to wear it on it's own with no base colour.
I am very pleased to report however that this is not the case! I was actually pretty happy with the effect just after one coat and if you're looking for a more subtle effect on your nails then this would be perfect as you can see in the photo below.

Two coats however and shazam you have the full effect which I think looks pretty spectacular! The formulation is incredibly thick in this product which is why it covers so well with minimal coats but it can be a little too gloopy which is annoying but not too much of a problem. The problem with this does however rear it's head when you see how quickly the bottle goes down. After painting my nails with it just three times the bottle has only got a third left in it which definitely puts the £2 price tag into a new perspective. Also it doesn't last long on your nails, chipping easily and you'll find that rather than gradually chipping off instead whole nails just peel off at the lightest of touches.

So all in all, a nice fun polish if you just want to use it for a night out or try something different but as it doesn't last too long I don't think I'll buy another bottle when this inevitably runs out after just one more use!
